Roblox Monetization: Game Passes, Developer Products, and Premium Payouts
Roblox offers several ways to earn from your games. This guide covers the main monetization methods: game passes, developer products, subscriptions, and the DevEx program that converts earned Robux into real currency.

[h]Game passes[/h]

Game passes are one-time purchases that grant permanent perks inside your game. They work well for VIP access, exclusive areas, or permanent power-ups. Players buy them once with Robux.

To create a pass, go to your game's Creations page, navigate to Monetization, then Passes, and click Create pass. You will need to upload an icon, enter a name and description, and select a category.

To sell a pass inside your game, use

Code: Select all

MarketplaceService:PromptGamePassPurchase()
. To check if a player already owns it, use

Code: Select all

MarketplaceService:UserOwnsGamePassAsync()
. You must manually assign pass privileges when a player joins your game.

[h]Developer products[/h]

Developer products are repeatable purchases for consumable items like in-game currency, ammo, or potions. They generally monetize better than passes because players can buy them multiple times.

Creating a developer product follows a similar process: go to Monetization, then Developer Products, and click Create developer product. The minimum price is 1 Robux and the maximum is 1 billion Robux.

Unlike passes, developer products require you to implement

Code: Select all

MarketplaceService.ProcessReceipt()
to handle purchases that happen outside your game. This API validates the receipt and confirms you granted the purchased items. If you do not implement it correctly, your products will not appear on external surfaces like the Roblox homepage.

[h]Revenue share[/h]

You receive 70% of the Robux spent on your items. The remaining 30% is Roblox's marketplace fee. To convert these Robux into real currency, you need to withdraw through the DevEx program.

[h]DevEx program[/h]

The Developer Exchange (DevEx) program allows eligible creators to exchange earned Robux for real-world currency. The requirements include:
  • Be at least 13 years old
  • Have a minimum of 30,000 earned Robux
  • Have a Roblox-verified email address
  • Have a valid DevEx portal account
  • Have a tax form on file (W-9 for U.S. taxpayers, W-8 for non-U.S.)
The standard exchange rate is 0.0038 USD per earned Robux, which comes out to $114 for 30,000 Robux. Roblox offers a higher rate of 0.0054 for certain purchases from U.S. players who have verified their age as 18 or older.

You can have a completed DevEx request once per calendar month. First-time participants should allow around 10 business days for processing; returning participants around 5 business days.

[h]Creator Rewards[/h]

Roblox rewards creators for producing engaging content:
  • Daily engagement: Earn 5 Robux when an active spender (someone who spent at least $9.99 in the last 60 days) plays your game for 10 minutes or more. This applies to the first three games they play per day.
  • Audience expansion: Earn a 35% revenue share on the first $100 in Robux purchases made by a new or returning user who finds your game through a direct link or search and plays for at least 10 minutes.
[h]Subscriptions[/h]

Subscriptions provide players with benefits for a recurring monthly fee. Common benefits include in-game currency, multipliers, and access to exclusive items. Subscriptions auto-renew and are priced in local currency.
