- The Roblox mobile app home screen now has a tabbed navigation bar: Moments, Chat, and Me, with Build appearing in New Zealand.
- Moments is a vertical feed of gameplay clips. Every clip has a Join button that drops you into the game, and age-checked players 16 or older can browse the tab.
- From October 2026, players can tap an avatar inside a Moments clip and buy the items or background shown without leaving the video.
- Chat now carries a conversation from the app into a game and back out again, and creators can publish their own Quick Words for their game.
- The tabs launched on July 28, 2026 in Canada, New Zealand, and Singapore, and are rolling out worldwide over the following months.
On July 28, 2026, Roblox replaced the old home screen with a tabbed navigation bar. The tabs are Moments, Chat, and Me, and they show up first for players in Canada, New Zealand, and Singapore. Players in New Zealand also get a fourth tab, Build, the mobile-first creation tool. Roblox says the tabs roll out globally over the coming months, and the fine print on the announcement is explicit that availability and features vary by age and region.
The stated reason for the redesign is simple. People used to leave Roblox to talk about Roblox. A friend shares a clip on YouTube or TikTok, you click through, you download something, and by the time you are in, the moment has passed. Roblox wants the whole loop inside one app: see the clip, tap Join, land in the game. Its own numbers put the scale behind that. An average of 132 million daily active users open Roblox each day, and Roblox has said that players logged 29 billion hours in the quarter before RDC 2026.
One detail worth flagging if you are outside North America: in May 2026, players in the UK and Europe reported seeing the Moments tab even though Moments was only available in North America, and clicking into a clip returned an error. That bug report was marked fixed in June, and the tab stopped showing for users who cannot use it.
Moments: the discovery tab
Moments is the discovery half of the redesign. It is a scrollable feed of gameplay clips shared by friends and by selected video creators, and each clip has a Join button underneath it. Tapping Join puts you straight into the featured experience, which is the whole point of the feature. Roblox also added higher-production clips from a set of partnered creators, and those clips link to the games they show rather than just sitting there as entertainment.
The age gate is the part people get wrong. Roblox's own support article says the Moments experience carries a Moderate content maturity label and is playable by users 13 or older at launch. The July 28 announcement of the Moments tab says age-checked players 16 or older can browse the tab. Those are two different statements about two different things, the experience versus the tab, and they have both been true at different points. If your account cannot open the tab, that is the reason, and it is not a bug.
Chat and Me: what changed for players
Chat used to be something you left when you joined a game. Now a conversation persists across games. Roblox describes it as one continuous conversation that travels with you from the app into a game and back out, so a plan made in the lobby does not evaporate the moment the server loads. Roblox also released voice typing, which lets you dictate a message instead of typing it, and says it is testing a hands-free mode.
Underneath the feature sit the safety layers that have been landing all year: age checks required to chat, the Trusted Friends system for closer contacts, and real-time rephrasing that softens or flags uncivil messages as they are typed. Chat is only available when it is age-appropriate for the account.
The old Avatar tab is now Me. It merges your profile information and your avatar's appearance into one screen, and it adds several new avatar backgrounds. If you are hunting for where the avatar editor went, that is it.
Quick Words: what creators can publish
Quick Words are short preset phrases that players tap instead of typing. Roblox's example is "start your engines" in a racing game. They exist because free-form chat is restricted for younger accounts, and a pre-approved phrase list gives those players a way to coordinate without opening the door to anything unfiltered. Every phrase is reviewed for policy compliance before it goes live.
Creators can now build their own. In Creator Hub, under your game, then Configure, then Chat, then Quick Words, you can add up to three custom categories with three to ten phrases each. Your custom categories replace Roblox's defaults, but the shared General category stays available. Submissions are reviewed before publishing.
Shopping in Moments and other October changes
The biggest addition for players this month is shopping inside a clip. Starting in October 2026, players can tap any avatar in a Moments video and buy the items or the background shown, without leaving the video. Build games are expected to become playable directly inside the Moments tab in the months after that.
Two more changes are worth knowing about even though they are not part of the app redesign:
- A new notification system for turn-based multiplayer games alerts players when it is their turn. It arrives in Studio Beta in October 2026 and reaches full release by the end of the year.
- Offline solo play is targeted for mid-2027, with early access sooner. Creators will be able to enable an offline mode alongside their live multiplayer mode.
| Tab[/th] | What it does[/th] | Who can use it[/th] | Status[/th] |
| Moments | Vertical feed of gameplay clips, one tap Join, in-video avatar shopping from October 2026 | Age-checked players 16 or older | Live in CA, NZ, SG, global rollout |
| Chat | Persistent conversation that follows you between games, voice typing | Only when age-appropriate for the account | Live in CA, NZ, SG, global rollout |
| Me | Profile and avatar editor combined, new avatar backgrounds | All players | Live in CA, NZ, SG, global rollout |
| Build | Mobile-first game creation from prompts, same back end as Studio | Age-verified players 9 and older | Public alpha, New Zealand |
| Play | The games home, recommended experiences | All players | Live |
If you publish a game, three of these changes touch your work directly.
First, your game can now appear in Moments. Clips from your experience can be captured and shared, and each one is a route into your game. Developers can turn off player capture in their experience if they do not want that, and if capture is disabled, players cannot record in your game at all.
Second, Quick Words are now yours to configure. Three categories, three to ten phrases each, reviewed before publishing. For a game where players coordinate under pressure, this is the difference between a team that talks and a team that guesses.
Third, the analytics moved. Starting October 12, 2026, impressions, clicks, and plays from Home, Search, and Charts are recorded through an updated measurement pipeline. Roblox warned creators to expect higher impressions and play counts and a small decrease in play-through rate. Historical data did not change, and no action was required. If your numbers jumped in mid October, that is the pipeline, not a viral moment.
FAQ
Why do I not see the Moments tab?
The tab rolled out first to Canada, New Zealand, and Singapore, and is expanding globally over the following months. It is also gated: age-checked players 16 or older can browse it. If you are younger, or in a region that has not received the rollout yet, you will not see it, and that is expected rather than broken.
Why does clicking a Moments clip give me an error?
That was a reported bug in May and June 2026, where players outside North America saw the Moments tab even though the feature was not available in their region, and clicking a clip returned a connection error. The report was marked fixed in late June and the tab stopped showing for users who cannot access it. If you still see it and it fails, check that your app is updated and your account has completed its age check.
Can I buy items from a Moments video?
Yes, from October 2026. Tap an avatar in a clip and you can buy the items or the background shown without leaving the video. Availability varies by age and region, so if the option is missing, that is the first thing to check.
Do Quick Words replace the default phrases in my game?
Your custom categories replace Roblox's default categories, but the shared General category stays available. You can add up to three categories with three to ten phrases each, and every submission is reviewed before it goes live.
Will Chat work if I am under 13?
Chat is only available when it is age-appropriate for the account. Roblox requires an age check before chat, and younger accounts have tighter communication settings. Quick Words exist partly so those players still have a way to coordinate.
Can players record video in my game?
Yes, unless you turn it off. Developers can disable player capture in their experience, and if capture is disabled, players cannot record there. Published clips are moderated before they go live, and captures strip in-experience UI and usernames.
