Quick Summary

Tower of Hell is a competitive obby by YXceptional Studios where a random vertical tower is built from a pool of 338 vanilla sections and there are no checkpoints at all.

Noob towers are 6 sections with an 8 minute timer, pro towers are 12 sections with 10 minutes, and private servers run 4 to 40 sections from the menu or up to 200 with commands.

A completed noob tower pays 100 coins and a pro tower pays 250, doubling with the Double Coins mutator or game pass and reaching 300 percent with both.

THE Tower of Hell is a separate 330 section mode added on December 13 2024 with no timer, and beating it is what awards the Red Halo and the Certified Beast badge.

Coins pay for gears, mutators and effects. The skill tree caps out at level 80, and that level also unlocks the Pink Halo.

What Tower of Hell Actually Is
Tower of Hell (ToH) is a round based obby by YXceptional Studios. Every round the server stacks sections into a fresh tower, so there is no fixed map to memorise. The one rule that defines the whole game is in the official description: "absolutely no checkpoints at all". Die to a killpart or fall off and you are back at the bottom of that tower, not the last platform you touched.
The game launched on June 18 2018, it is listed in the Obby & Platformer genre with Tower Obby as its subgenre, server size is 20, and the Roblox page shows 29.2B+ visits and 12,085,367 favorites. It won Best Obby at the Roblox Innovation Awards 2024. The Roblox page snapshot used for this guide showed the game last updated on 10/10/2026.
The Modes You Can Play Right Now
There are five towers in the game family, and the differences between them matter a lot for how you plan a climb.
Noob and pro towers have not always been this long. The wiki records that noob towers used to be 5 sections and pro towers used to be 10, and that both were increased to their current lengths. For a short window from March 24 to May 2 2021 the noob timer was 6 minutes and the pro timer was 8 minutes before both were reverted.
Private servers keep the old name in the UI. The game still calls them "VIP Servers" in the menu because that was the former name for private servers and the menu was never updated to reflect the new one. A Tower of Hell RB portal sat to the right of the starting ladder between December 14 2022 and March 7 2023, but it has since been removed.
How Coins and XP Are Calculated
Since an update on March 4 2020 you no longer have to finish a tower to be paid. Coins come in as you beat sections, and the amount is not linear. The wiki gives the formula as floor(MaxCoins * (m/n)^2), where m is the sections you beat and n is the sections in the tower.
That squared term is the whole story. Beating 3 of 6 sections in a noob tower pays 25 coins, and beating 5 of 6 pays 69. You only get the full 100 by finishing.

TowerSectionsMax coinsWith Double CoinsMax XP

Noob6100200 (300 with both)100

Pro12250500 (750 with both)250

XP works the same way and it is equal to the coins you earned in that tower, so a completed noob tower is 100 XP and a completed pro tower is 250 XP. Two things to know. Leaving a server part way through a round grants you none of that XP, so speeding up the timer and leaving gives you nothing. And you cannot earn XP in THE Tower of Hell at all, even though your level still shows on the leaderboard.
If the Lengthen mutator is active you earn no coins from that tower until after you beat the second section.
Levels, Skill Points, and the Level 80 Goal
You start at level 0 and the XP requirement climbs linearly: 100 XP to go from level 0 to 1, 200 to go from 1 to 2, 300 more to reach 3, and so on.
Every level gives you 1 skill point. The skill tree needs 80 levels worth of points to max out, which the wiki works out as 324,000 XP, or 3,240 noob tower wins, or 1,296 pro tower wins. Maxing it grants the Pink Halo and the Maxed badge. The level cap is level 1,000,000, which would take over 500 billion noob towers.
Two rules that catch people out. Only one branch of skills can be active at a time, and the only way to reset the tree is the 50 Robux "Skill Reset" shop item, so be careful where you spend points. And skill points you have already earned stay unlocked permanently even if you leave or disconnect.
Gears, Mutators, and Effects
Gears apply to you alone and last for one round only. Mutators apply to everyone in the server and expire when the round ends. Effects are purely cosmetic and do not give any boost.

GearFunctionNoob costPro cost

Gravity CoilJump higher and fall slower80152

Speed CoilMove faster60120

Fusion CoilJump higher and move faster90150

TrowelPlaces jumpable paths, 5 seconds each, 8 second cooldown4076

HookGrapple and swing, rope snaps if it stretches too far80152

HourglassFreezes every moving part including conveyors72144

There are 6 shop gears plus 4 more that can only be gained by other means, and the secret section Gearbox hands you all of the shop gears except the hourglass for free. Coin prices rise with tower length: the wiki lists a 6 section noob tower, a 12 section pro tower and the Tower of Hell RB as separate columns.
The full mutator list, with the 12 mutators currently in game:

Invincibility, 500 coins, cannot die from killparts

High Speed, 100 coins, everyone moves 25 percent faster

Low Gravity, 130 coins, global gravity reduced by 25 percent

Foggy, 150 coins, makes everything foggy

Negative, 150 coins, inverts colors

Extra Time, 50 coins, adds 2 minutes to the timer

Invisibility, 9 Robux, everyone invisible including on the sidebar, trails still show

Double Jump, 15 Robux, everyone can jump twice

Bunny Hop, 20 Robux, everyone jumps continuously

Checkpoints, 11 Robux, adds a checkpoint every other section

Double Coins, 11 Robux, doubles the coin reward for the round

Lengthen, 150 coins, adds another section at the bottom
Coin mutators cost more on longer towers, and the Robux ones have a coin price too when you hold a membership. Buying every coin mutator in one server is what awards the Mutated badge, and the wiki puts that total at 1,230 coins. Robux mutators are not required for the badge. One more trap: if the Double Coins mutator and the Double Coins game pass are both active you earn 300 percent of the normal reward, not the 400 percent you would expect from two doublings.
At the bottom of the tower, on the right side of the shop, there is a clickable NPC called Pixy who sells mutators with a 30 percent discount on the menu shop price for one random mutator at a time.
The Skill Tree in Numbers
Every branch ties to one gear, and the costs are steep at the top end.

Gravity Coil: Double Jump for 14 points, gravity reduction 45 / 55 / 60 percent for 1 / 3 / 8 points, jump power increase for 3 and 8 points

Speed Coil: speed increase 75 / 140 / 200 percent for 1 / 2 / 5 points

Fusion Coil: speed increase 50 / 100 percent for 1 / 2 points, gravity reduction 45 / 55 percent for 2 / 5 points, jump power increase for 5 points

Trowel: block size 8 then 16 for 2 and 3 points, truss placement for 5 points
A note on the Gravity Coil: the gear page says you can double jump with this gear if you have the double jump skill in the skill tree, so the two systems connect rather than the gear doing it on its own.
Private Servers and Every Chat Command
Tower of Hell private servers cost 250 Robux per month and the in-game menu still labels them "VIP Server Settings". The features are:

Stop other people from buying things from the shop

Skip the current tower and spawn a new one at any time

Change the tower size from 4 to 40 in the menu, or up to 200 with commands

Spawn in the Bomb gear

Filter sections by attributes

Spawn a 330 section THE Tower of Hell

Kick or ban people from the server
The chat commands, from the wiki command list:

/online, how many players are currently online and active in your server, not counting yourself

/serverinfo, shows place ID, version, player count, job ID, start time and timezone

/sinfo, abbreviation of /serverinfo

/ctheme AccentColor;0-1,0-1,0-1, changes the accent color of the menu, and the same pattern for BackgroundColor, TextColor, ButtonColor, DisabledAccentColor, DisabledTextColor, BackgroundTransparency, ButtonTransparency

/setlength 4-200, sets the tower length for the next tower

/lockshop and /unlockshop, lock the shop so nobody can buy mutators or gears

/serverban username and /sban, ban a player until the session ends

/kick username, kick a player who can rejoin

/skip, resets the tower

/ttoh, spawns THE Tower of Hell with all 330 vanilla sections in a partially randomized order, removes the timer, blocks gear and mutator purchases, and awards the Red Halo and Certified Beast badge on completion

/ttoh full, all 330 sections in alphabetical order, timer removed, gears and mutators still purchasable, and awards nothing

/ttoh og, the old 17 section tower built by ObrenTune, also awards nothing

/givegear bomb, gives the server owner a bomb for a hot potato style game

/filtersections conveyor, kills, locals, phantom or wind, filter which section types spawn, with an exclamation mark to invert and an ampersand to combine

/remove and /mod, former commands that have been removed
Two restrictions on filters: the combination you choose must contain 32 or more sections or the game will not let you set it, and secret sections will not spawn while the command is in use.
Secret Sections and the Badges
Secret sections were added on October 11 2019 and they do not follow the regular vanilla format. Almost all of them have no creator value and are usually a grayscale color. The wiki counts 36 confirmed secret sections, of which 9 require admin commands to spawn and 27 can be found normally. A secret section without a unique rarity is defaulted to be 20 times rarer than a vanilla section.
There are nine obtainable badges in the game. Collecting every badge except Certified Beast awards the Purple Halo, which is a much longer grind than it sounds.

BadgeHow to get it

NewbieComplete your first 6 section noob tower by touching the white door

ProComplete your first 12 section pro tower

MutatedBe in a server with every coin bought mutator active

SecretReach any of the 29 secret sections

MaxedMax out the skill tree after reaching level 80

CollectorEarn every effect from coin boxes

ExplorerReach every vanilla section

SaboteurFind the Carmine Halo in the secret section Saboteur

Certified BeastBeat all sections in THE Tower of Hell

The badge owner counts on the wiki and on Rolimon's are two different numbers. The wiki lists Newbie at 65,135,346 owners, Maxed at 37,669 and Collector at 92,511, while the Rolimon's page shows Newbie awarded to 66,574,637 and Maxed to 40,984. Both are in the same ballpark, and the wiki article states its owner numbers were last updated on September 12 2026, so the gap is age rather than disagreement.
Halos: What Each One Actually Requires
Halos are exclusive effects awarded for hitting a milestone. Owner counts are from the wiki page, last updated September 14 2026.

Red Halo, about 1,913 owners, beat all the sections in THE Tower of Hell, awarded with the Certified Beast badge

Blue Halo, owner count unknown, the only available halo not awarded through badges, comes from Premium effect boxes or the Effect Stock at 1200 Robux

Pink Halo, 38,100 owners, reach level 80 and unlock everything in the skill tree, awarded with the Maxed badge

Purple Halo, owner count unknown, obtain every badge in the game except Certified Beast

Teal Halo, 93,817 owners, obtain all the effects available from coin boxes, awarded with the Collector badge

Carmine Halo, 140,470 owners, found in the secret section Saboteur, awarded with the Saboteur badge
Two halos are gone for good. The Orange Halo required finding every secret section and was removed on May 15 2020 because it was distracting players from the main game, and the Legacy Blue Halo required finding every vanilla section and was removed for being extremely common. Players who earned them kept the badge, but the Orange Halo holders did not get to keep the halo itself.
Getting the Red Halo: THE Tower of Hell
THE Tower of Hell is a game mode of Tower of Hell added on December 13 2024. It requires you to beat all 330 vanilla sections currently in the game, with MiniTower, Anticipation and Finish at the top. Unlike the legacy version, this mode is built into the main game and is reached through the "THE Tower" portal in the Lobby section.
The section order is randomized to combat a type of exploit. The fixed sections are start, The Message, Which One, MiniTower, Anticipation and Finish. Everything else can land anywhere.
The private server /ttoh command does the same thing and removes the timer, but the wiki notes that /ttoh full, which puts all 330 sections in alphabetical order, awards nothing on completion. If you want the Red Halo, use the portal in the Lobby or the /ttoh command, not /ttoh full.
The process after you finish is not instant. You submit a recording, staff validate it, and then you follow their instructions inside a ticket. The wiki says staff need at least 10 minutes of your time to grant the badge and halo. Any run from before the current version is invalid, and runs recorded with /ttoh full or /ttoh og do not count. Paying someone to beat the tower on your account is a bannable offence for both sides.
Controls and Settings Worth Changing
PC players use WASD to move, Space to jump, and Shift Lock, which is Left Shift, to lock the camera behind the character for depth perception on narrow jumps and lava gaps. Mobile players get a virtual joystick and a jump button, and precision is genuinely harder on a small screen.
Shift Lock needs three settings right or it will not fire at all: Movement Mode set to Keyboard + Mouse rather than Click to Move, the Shift Lock Switch turned on in Settings, and Windows Sticky Keys off. Xbox Game Bar overlay and non 100 percent display scaling are also listed as causes of input feeling offset.
The Settings menu, opened from Shop then Settings, has a Change Theme option for Dark, Bright or Transparent, and a Killpart Color slider from 0 to 360 degrees that recolors every killpart in the game. Two quirks from the wiki: while the menu loads it says "Label" above the Killpart Color bar instead of "Killpart Color", and until June 8 2026 setting the killpart color to 69 degrees would instead say "nice".
A Warm Up Routine That Actually Works

Read the tower before you climb. The wiki's own advice for a new player is that success comes from parkour fundamentals, reading sections quickly and staying calm under time pressure, not from memorizing a fixed map, and the community guide suggests watching the bottom sections for 30 to 60 seconds first.

Turn Shift Lock on for technical sections and keep it on through chained jumps.

Hug the inside line on corners and hold momentum where the section allows it.

Treat mutators as a choice, not a free win. Invincibility has no downside, but High Speed and Low Gravity can make some sections harder, and Bunny Hop keeps firing while you climb unless you jump yourself.

Drop your graphics settings and check your connection before a serious climb. Lag mid jump is a common cause of a lost round.

On mobile, use smaller thumb movements on the joystick for tight ledges rather than full sweeps.

FAQ
Q: Does Tower of Hell have checkpoints?
A: No. Standard rounds have no checkpoints at all, which is stated directly in the game description. The Checkpoints mutator, which costs 11 Robux, adds a checkpoint to every other section for one round. Some Robux mutators add temporary checkpoint style help for a paid round.
Q: Why did I get sent back to the bottom after I died?
A: There are no checkpoints, so any fall or killpart death returns you to the lobby floor of that tower. It applies to the whole server. The only mode that softens this is The Takeover of Hell event tower, which added checkpoints to each end platform, and that mode was for that event only.
Q: How long is a Tower of Hell round?
A: Noob towers run 8 minutes and pro towers run 10 minutes. THE Tower of Hell has no round timer at all, and neither do private servers running the /ttoh or /ttoh full commands.
Q: Why do my Tower of Hell codes not work?
A: Codes are case sensitive, they expire without notice, and they are one time per account. The community wiki lists active codes including /freemember, which grants about 36 hours of Membership with daily coins, exclusive crowns and coin access to mutators, and recommends confirming a code is still listed as active and typing it exactly. Its last verification stamp reads 2026-06-04, so treat the list as a snapshot rather than a guarantee.
Q: Is there an official Tower of Hell Trello board?
A: No public official Trello exists for Tower of Hell. Many "Trello" search results point at fan games such as Eternal Towers of Hell (EToH) or Juke's Towers of Hell, which are separate experiences with their own wikis. For real ToH updates the wiki points to the YXceptional Studios Roblox group, the official Discord community and support.yx.zone.
Q: Can I practice a fixed tower layout?
A: Yes, two ways. On a private server you can use /setlength with a number between 4 and 200 and /filtersections to pick the section types you want, which requires at least 32 sections to be selected. Or you can play THE Tower of Hell for a long fixed set of developer sections.
Q: Can I pay someone to beat the tower for me?
A: No. The wiki states plainly that if you are found to be exploiting, selling, purchasing, trading or boosting for the Red Halo, you and the people involved will be banned. You also lose any recording from an older version of the tower.
Q: Why did my XP not save after I left the server?
A: Leaving a server part way through a round grants none of the earned XP, so you cannot speed up the timer and leave to farm it. You also cannot earn XP in THE Tower of Hell at all.
Q: Are scripts and auto complete tools safe to use?
A: No. Using third party scripts violates the Roblox Terms of Use and risks a permanent account ban. The community wiki lists the legitimate alternatives as VIP server commands, practice in THE Tower, Shift Lock mastery and watching skilled players on the current random tower, and the in-game ban appeal exists precisely because exploiting is punished.
