Adopt Me Pet Aging Guide (October 2026): Every Task Count, the Pet Pen Rates, and the Two Tables That Disagree

Quick Summary
  • Adopt Me! aging runs Newborn to Full Grown in six stages, and every stage costs a fixed number of tasks that scales with pet rarity. A Common finishes in 25 tasks, a Legendary in 183.
  • The Pet Pen passively ages up to four pets at once, at 800 XP per hour while you are in game and 200 XP per hour while you are offline, and it also earns Bucks.
  • Two task tables for reaching Full Grown circulate online and they disagree. This post covers both rather than picking one.
  • A Neon needs four Full Grown pets of the same species fused at the Neon Cave, so the Neon task bill is four times the single pet total.
  • Age Up Potions clear 30 tasks each and come from leveling a Full Grown pet's friendship, which has no cap.
The six aging stages
Every pet in Adopt Me! walks the same path. Newborn leads to Junior, then Pre-Teen, Teen, Post-Teen, and finally Full Grown. Each completed need counts as one task, so feeding, drinking, sleeping, bathing, school, and play all move the same counter. The stages are identical for every pet regardless of rarity, and only the task cost per stage changes.

Uplift Games publishes a table of how many pet needs are completed to age pets by rarity, posted alongside the September 2025 rebalance that also introduced the Pet Pen. The table itself is an image rather than text, so the numbers below come from community transcriptions of it.

The task table, and why two versions disagree
Two sets of Full Grown totals circulate. The Adopt Me! Wiki and the GG Chest guide both land on 25 for Common, 36 for Uncommon, 54 for Rare, 107 for Ultra-Rare, and 183 for Legendary. Pro Game Guides and games.gg instead publish 56, 80, 120, 160, and 275 for the same five rarities. BloxSwaps splits the difference with 56, 70, 150, 178, and 189, and its per-stage rows do not sum to its own total row, which is a sign the page is internally inconsistent.

The split lines up with the September 2025 rebalance. Uplift Games wrote that the change made growing pets and making Neons "easier than ever," and the lower column is the one that matches the post-rebalance wiki. The Pro Game Guides page cites a 2023 Adopt Me! tweet as its source, which predates that rebalance. Treat 183 as the current Legendary figure and read the older 275 as pre-rebalance history. If a guide you are reading quotes 275, it is quoting the old math.

The one per-stage number every source agrees on is the first one: a Common takes 3 tasks to move from Newborn to Junior.

What the Pet Pen actually does
Uplift Games shipped Pet Pens on September 12, 2025, and every house on Adoption Island now comes with one. The developer notes list the rules plainly: passively age up to four pets at a time, 8 needs per hour while online (800 XP), 2 needs per hour while offline (200 XP), pets can only age up an entire level at a time and you have to visit them to keep growing, Neon pets can be aged there, and friendship levels cannot be earned inside the pen.

The Adopt Me! Wiki fills in the numbers. A pen holds five slots, with the first four free and the fifth purchasable for 295 Robux. Pets earn 800 XP per hour while you are in game or 200 XP per hour while you are offline. Once a pet has banked enough XP for the next age, you have to visit the pen and claim it before the pet can earn more, and a fully grown pet stops earning XP entirely. Since February 6, 2026, pens also accumulate Bucks: 1 every two minutes per pet while you are online, or every 40 minutes while offline, capped at 750 before you must claim.

That claim step is the part people miss. A pen does not walk your pet through six stages while you sleep. It banks XP and waits. If you want the pen to do continuous work, check it between stages.

Age Up Potions and friendship
Age Up Potions were added in July 2023 and each one is worth 30 tasks. You earn them by raising the friendship level of a Full Grown pet, and there is no cap on friendship, so the potion supply is effectively unlimited if you are willing to put the time in.

Divide the Full Grown total by 30 and round up. A Common at 25 tasks needs one potion to cross the line, and the guides list 2. A Legendary at 183 needs 7 potions by that math, while the guides list 10, which fits the 275 pre-rebalance figure instead.

The same wiki page notes that after a Neon reaches Luminous, its friendship levels can be aged up infinitely, and that friendship above 0 on any of the four pets fused into a Neon carries over into the new pet's friendship bar.

Costing out a Neon
A Neon fuses four Full Grown pets of the same species at the Neon Cave, which sits under the main bridge between Adoption Island and the Neighborhood and is handled by the NPC Nixie. Fusion is free and the cave is unlocked by default. Four Luminous Neons fuse into a Mega Neon.

Because the fusion needs four identical pets, the task bill multiplies by four. Using the current column that is 100 tasks for a Common Neon, 144 for Uncommon, 216 for Rare, 428 for Ultra-Rare, and 732 for Legendary. Against the older 275 figure, the same Legendary Neon reads 1,100 tasks.

Three pets cannot be made into Neons at all: the Pet Rock, Scoob, and Pumpkin, and the wiki adds Burtaur and MFR Sandwich to that list. If any of the four base pets had Fly or Ride, the Neon inherits those abilities.
  1. Pick a species and pull four copies of it to Full Grown.
  2. Age each one through the six stages, or clear 30 tasks per Age Up Potion.
  3. Send all four into the Pet Pen so they bank XP in parallel while you do other things.
  4. Claim the banked XP at the pen each time a pet has enough for its next stage.
  5. When all four hit Full Grown, walk under the main bridge to the Neon Cave.
  6. Place the four pets on the glowing circles around the platform. The fusion runs on its own once the fourth is placed.
  7. Age the resulting Neon from Reborn through Twinkle, Sparkle, Flare, and Sunshine to Luminous, using the same task counts as a regular pet of that rarity.
The grinding room and the Pet Pen as the two routes
Active aging works through a grinding room: a cheap crib, a tub, a feeder, and a piano in one room, so sleep, hygiene, hunger, thirst, and boredom all sit in one place. That setup does not cover every task type, but it removes almost all of the walking between them.

Passive aging works through the pen, and the two are not either-or. Most people run the pen on the pets that are expensive to age and grind actively on the ones that are cheap. A Legendary in the pen banks 800 XP an hour against a 183 task finish line, which is roughly 23 hours of pen time to cross from Newborn to Full Grown if you never claim a stage manually and a lot less if you do.

FAQ
How many tasks to age a pet in Adopt Me?
It depends on rarity. The current totals are 25 for Common, 36 for Uncommon, 54 for Rare, 107 for Ultra-Rare, and 183 for Legendary. Some older guides still quote 56, 80, 120, 160, and 275, which were the pre-rebalance numbers.

How does the Pet Pen work in Adopt Me?
Every house on Adoption Island has one. It ages up to four pets at once, at 800 XP per hour online and 200 XP per hour offline, and it also earns Bucks. Pets can only age a whole level at a time, so you have to visit the pen and claim the banked XP to keep them growing. Friendship levels do not earn inside the pen.

How many Age Up Potions does a Legendary pet need?
The guides say 10, which matches the 275 pre-rebalance total at 30 tasks per potion. On the current 183 total the same math gives 7. Each potion is worth 30 tasks and comes from leveling a Full Grown pet's friendship, which has no cap.

How many tasks does a Mega Neon take?
A Mega Neon needs four Luminous Neons, which is 16 base pets. At the current Legendary total that is 2,928 tasks for the base pets plus another 1,100 to push the four Neons to Luminous, so 4,028 in total.

Which pets cannot become Neon?
The Pet Rock, Scoob, and Pumpkin cannot, and the wiki also lists Burtaur and MFR Sandwich. Every other pet in the game can be made into a Neon if you have four Full Grown copies of the same species.

Do Age Up Potions work on Neon pets?
Yes. Neon pets can be aged inside the Pet Pen and they move through the same task counts as a regular pet of that rarity, just under renamed stages: Reborn, Twinkle, Sparkle, Flare, Sunshine, and Luminous.
